Getting started

A quick guide to importing Interactive Brokers exports, reviewing net performance after fees, backing up your data, and moving to a new machine.

Quick start

  1. Download and install the app.
  2. Create an account, verify your email, and log in.
  3. Import your Interactive Brokers trade report (.tlg or activity statement .csv).
  4. Review your Dashboard and Stats views (net P&L includes fees).
  5. Add deposits/withdrawals so equity reflects cash movements.
  6. Export a backup once in a while.

Your data & privacy

Your trades and deposits/withdrawals are stored locally on your machine.

Your account is used for login and license validation. Billing and subscription state are handled online.

Trial & license basics

SimpleTradeLog starts with a 14-day free trial. After that, it’s €59.99/year per machine. One plan. No tiers.

Switching computers is supported via a transfer flow (see below).

Using the app

Import Interactive Brokers exports
Upload Interactive Brokers .tlg files or activity statement .csv files from inside the app. Imports are safe to repeat: trades are deduped to avoid duplicates.
Note: other exports like .ofx/.qfx may contain split fills and won’t match .tlg 1:1.
Tip: if an import looks empty, double-check you exported the correct report period/file type from IB.
Dashboard (net P&L)
See P&L, equity, and performance cards. Net P&L includes fees so you can review what you actually made.
Time filters & Calendar
Switch between All time / YTD / Month / Day. The Calendar view helps you spot daily performance and jump into a specific day.
Trades
Browse and filter your trade list (symbol + date range) while keeping performance fast.
Stats
Review key performance metrics (win rate, averages, largest win/loss, streaks, and more) using the same time filter you use elsewhere.
Deposits / Withdrawals
Track cash movements so net deposits and equity reflect reality. This helps when you want to separate trading performance from cash added/removed.

Backup (Export / Import)

Use the Backup page in the app to export all your locally stored data to a single JSON file, and import it later (e.g. when switching computers).

  • Export writes trades + deposits/withdrawals to one file.
  • Import merges your data and avoids duplicates.
  • Safe by default: importing won’t wipe your existing data.

Backups may contain sensitive trading history. Store them somewhere safe.

Accuracy & currency conversion

Disclaimer: SimpleTradeLog is an analysis tool. Performance metrics and equity are computed from imported trades and manual cashflows and may differ slightly from your broker’s official statements due to currency conversions, rounding, fees, or broker-specific reporting. Always use your broker statement as the source of truth.

Moving to a new computer (license transfer)

A license is intended for a single computer. If you get a new machine (or your old one dies), you can transfer the license.

  1. Try logging in on the new computer.
  2. If you see a “license bound to another computer” message, choose Transfer.
  3. Request a transfer code (sent to your email).
  4. Enter the code to re-bind your license to the new machine.

Troubleshooting

I can’t log in
Make sure you’re using the same email you registered with. If you just registered, check your inbox for the verification email before logging in. The app won’t unlock until the email is verified.
The app says I’m offline / can’t validate my license
Check your internet connection and try again. Trades stay local, but login and license validation require occasional online access.
My import shows no trades
Confirm you exported the correct Interactive Brokers .tlg report or activity statement .csv and date range. If you imported the same file already, duplicates may be skipped by design.
License bound to another computer
Use the transfer flow on the login screen to re-bind your license to your new machine.
